The golf courses of PGA Catalunya Golf Resort, internationally known, are becoming the most sought after in the world and can enjoy the best golf experience in Spain. The two fields of the complex, the Stadium Course and the Course Tour "have been designed by Angel Gallardo, a legend of Spanish golf, and Neil Coles, star player of the Ryder Cup together, Gallardo and Coles projected two courses designed to combine the technical challenge and the pleasure of playing in a natural environment of incomparable beauty and suitable for golfers of all levels. The result of this project were born a few fields that are a masterpiece in architecture courses, with streets lined with lush forests, abundant presence of water and panoramic views. Since its inauguration in 1999, PGA Catalunya Resort has earned an impeccable international reputation, and currently is ranked No. 2 in the ranking of the best courses in Spain. Distinguished by Golf World magazine as one of the top 10 European courses and ranked by Golf Monthly in the Top 3 of the continent, the Stadium Course has hosted the Open twice in Spain (2002 and 2009), while the Tour Course was the stage for the finals of the European Tour Qualifying School in the 2009 edition.
The first PGA Championship was held in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. The trophy was donated by Rodman Wanamaker, and it is now known as the Wanamaker Trophy (The Wanamaker Trophy). Originally it was a match-play tournament, but it has been transformed into stroke play in 1958, certainly by the pressure of American television, who preferred to show as many players as possible. The first winner, Jim Barnes, received $ 500 in 1916 (by comparison, the 2006 winner, Tiger Woods, he received more than one million dollars for his victory).
