Gallstones form when bile stored in the gallbladder hardens into a material similar to stone. Too much cholesterol, bile salts or bilirubin (bile pigment) can cause gallstones. When the calculations are within the gallbladder itself is called cholelithiasis. When gallstones are present in the bile duct is called choledocholithiasis. Gallstones that obstruct bile ducts can cause a serious infection of the biliary tract, pancreas or liver, which may even endanger life. The bile ducts can also be obstructed by cancer or trauma. There are two types of stones in the gallbladder cholesterol stones and pigment stones. 80 percent of gallstones are cholesterol stones. The size of gallstones varies from a grain of sand or salt to a golf ball. A person can have a single stone or several hundred. It is believed that cholesterol stones form when bile contains too much cholesterol, too much bilirubin, or not enough bile salts, or when the gallbladder does not empty as it should for some other reason. Pigment stones tend to develop in people who have cirrhosis, biliary tract infections and hereditary blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia. The causes of these stones are uncertain. At first, most gallstones cause no symptoms. However, when gallstones become larger, or when they begin obstructing bile ducts, symptoms or "attacks." The gallstones usually occur after eating fatty foods at night. The following are the most common symptoms of gallstones. However, each individual may experience symptoms differently. Symptoms may include:. Excess estrogen from pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills seem to increase cholesterol levels in bile and decrease the mobility of the gallbladder, both of which can lead to gallstones. Women aged between 20 and 60 years of age are twice as likely to develop gallstones than men. Drugs that reduce blood cholesterol can increase the cholesterol secreted in bile, which, in turn, increases the risk of gallstones. People with diabetes generally have high levels of fatty acids, called triglycerides, which may increase the risk of gallstones in the gallbladder. When the body metabolizes fat during rapid weight loss, causes the liver to secrete extra cholesterol into bile, which can cause stones in the gallbladder. This diet is aimed at people with biliary dyspepsia, gallstones or having undergone surgery of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy). Fish: white fish, flounder, hake, whiting, etc.., Boiled in water, seasoned with a little oil or lemon, grilled or lightly coated with a layer of pasta. Seafood: fish white, has little fat and is therefore recommended in the diet, oily fish or oily fish (10-12% fat) is discouraged, and the seafood is low in fat but is discouraged. When you take a few weeks with diet and you begin to feel better, you can test other foods or prepare them with other types of cooking. Make these changes gradually.
