Junior Golf Club

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in St Andrews (Scotland) is a golf club, founded in 1754 and was until 2004 one of the two relevant authorities in golf. The city of St. Andrews was due to the great cathedral and the university founded in 1413 has long been a religious and economic center in Scotland. This also benefited the sport of golf, it was considered that St Andrews "Home of Golf". During the Reformation, however, was the religious significance is lost and a decline of the economy and culture was the result. Although on the Old Course at St Andrews for more than 200 years golf was played, was St Andrews in the middle of the 18th Century no longer the preferred destination of the political and religious elite. Met to launch on 14 22 May 1754 Sponsors of the sport ("22 Noblemen and Gentlemen of the Kingdom of Fife") to be a trophy for an annual tournament donate unsubscribe, called the "Silver Club". In the founding declaration is to be read that one St Andrews as the "Alma Mater" of golf and looked hoped to contribute to the prosperity of the city. In fact, succeeded on a rebound, but probably not only because of the tournament, but also because the Gentlemen Golfers of Leith were (later the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers) in these troubled times of capacity problems on their golf course and go so many times the site had. The growing reputation of St Andrews was in 1834 when King William IV, the club still held the name of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews gave the speech in the sometimes shortened to R & A. The impressive clubhouse was built in 1854 and has been since 1873, the prestigious Open Championship held regularly in St Andrews, so that one end of the 19th Century, the former leader could claim again. However, the USGA was founded in 1894 and took over the regulatory responsibility for the game of golf in the U.S. and Mexico. In all other countries was played in 1897 under the rules of R & A. However, the two organizations agreed in 1951 on a common approach, so that with few exceptions, are spoken by a globally uniform set of rules. The exceptions relate to certain details in the range of permitted and prohibited equipment. The historically established dual function - local golf club on the one hand, the international leading authority of the sport on the other - on 1 Dissolved in January 2004 and there were two independent organizations. The official administration functions and responsibility for the hosting of major tournaments were a group of specially delegated for that purpose based firms, which occurs collectively as The R & A or R & A Rules Limited. This grouping is therefore in addition to the USGA one of the two editors of the official Rules of Golf and Decisions "(rule of interpretation). It is funded primarily through the hosting of the Open Championship. There are also other tournaments organized, particularly in the amateur field, such as the Junior Open and the Walker Cup. The actual golf club is still Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and is financed by member fees. It focuses primarily on the support of the 2400 members worldwide who enjoy the privilege of a particular right to play the Old Course.
