A historical rankings Club World Ranking can only be meaningful and useful if one takes into account all the results of the national leagues and cups and club competitions of the six continental confederations and FIFA. Therefore only possible to establish a historical classification of the Club World Ranking from January 1, 1991, when the Club World Ranking took into account all these considerations. The period between 1872 and 1990 can be assessed only subjectively, mainly because the champions are made to establish national and international references. It follows that the teams only compete for a tournament can not be measured, either because they got their title easily or well despite suffering numerous defeats. It is simply not possible to establish a basis to match the settings of all participating clubs during the period between 1872 and 1990. The IFFHS has decided therefore, logically, that the historic classification of Club World Ranking is defined as of January 1, 1991 from the annual ranking of the Club World Ranking (posted annually on December 31.) So be taken into account the top 50 clubs each year and will be awarded 50 points to first ranking down to 1 point qualifier in 50th place.
